APPRENTICE CONTEST: Congratulations go out to our apprentices who have just returned from the Regional Contest in Springfield Massachusetts. The best way to describe the pride and gratitude we all feel is for us to pass along a recent email we received from our Recording Secretary, Mark Miller:

“Greetings everybody,

It is Sunday evening and I have just returned home from Springfield Massachusetts. Over the weekend I had the privilege and honor of attending and mentoring at the Annual Regional Apprentice Competition. We left Thursday morning from Local #46 Union Hall and Training Facility with 5 talented apprentices. These craftsmen won their local competitions in the following categories and placed regionally as follows:

·        Architectural Sheet Metal - John Cooper from Spring Sheet Metal      1st  Place

·        HVAC Sheet Metal - Armando Davila from Leo J Roth Corp.        2nd  Place

·        HVAC Service - John Perna – from Crosby Brownlie Inc.           3rd  Place

·        Industrial Sheet Metal - Gino Valle from Leo J Roth Corporation      4th  Place

·        Test and Balance- Mike Benedict from Air Systems Test & Balance      3rd  Place

·        John Cooper Returns to the National Competition as a three time, National Contestant with a Second and Fourth Place win already under his belt.

·        Armando Davila is a two time regional contestant, having taken 2nd place last year.

·        John Perna, Gino Valle and Mike Benedict are all first time regional contestants.

The apprentices that competed came from numerous states located in the northeast including New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

Also attending the competition from Local #46 was our Service Instructor and E-Board Member John Bilinski from the Leo J Roth Corporation; Mike Kelly, Training Coordinator for Local #46, who is also the newest member of the Region One JATC Apprentice Competition Committee (Congratulations Mike!) and Greg Bush, Business Agent and TAB Instructor. The National Contest will be held on April 1 - 3, 2008 in Las Vegas.

Congratulations to the apprentice/contestants and fellow instructors for a job well done. Special thanks to the members and signatory contractors who make these competitions possible and especially to the apprentices for what they are… In a class of their own!”

Respectfully yours,

Mark Miller

LAMAR ADVERTISING: On Friday January 18, 2008 the employees of Lamar Outdoor Advertising Co. did have their opportunity to decide, by election, if they would like union representation with Local #46. Unfortunately they decided not to organize and join our organization. For more details please come to our February Union Meeting.
