Labor News for May 2, 2008
"FIREPOT"

THE NEXT UNION MEETING IS ON THURSDAY MAY 15, 2008 AT 5:00 PM

EXPERTISE LOGOS: In keeping with the spirit of the "Partners in Progress" campaign and our two international associations we will be working with and displaying the new Expertise Branding logos on a regular basis. There are 4 different logos in total and we have been displaying them, in random order, in the Labor news for your review. They are as follows; Architectural Expertise (above), HVAC Expertise, Industrial Expertise and a single logo that combines all three.

RETIREE BOWLING CHAMPIONS!: A team consisting of Billy Dowdle, Victor Dulnik, Mike Houlihan and Tom Sippel won the 2007-2008 AMF/Greater Rochester American Bowling Association (GRABA) Senior Travel League Championship!  When you see the guys congratulate them & give them a big slap on the back!

RETIREE MEETINGS:  This is just a reminder that the next meeting for the "Retirees Club" will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 10:30 am.  All are welcome!  Come and join your fellow union brothers.

SOFTBALL TEAM:  The Local 46 Baseball team is back in business for another season. They are looking for new members/players to join the team. They would also welcome cheerleaders, fans and spectators. We will post a schedule as soon as it is available. Please give the hall a call and we can connect you with "Baseball Bob" Pelusio.

VOLUNTEERS:
Thank you to the many members who have called in or signed the sheet and have offered to help out with a few of the charity events or projects we have coming up. Time is a very precious commodity and giving up a small piece of it helping others is not only time well spent it is always appreciated. Spending a bit of that time with your Union Brothers and Sisters is even better.

WAGE ALLOCATION
; At the March 21st Union Meeting the membership allocated the $1.55 wage increase for May 5, 2008. Wage sheets have been mailed to all active members; if you have not received one please give the hall a call.

WORK REFERRALS: Hopefully everyone will all be returning to work soon so please remember that a work referral must be completed at the hall BEFORE you can return to work. It is a very important part of the process. Please take the time to do the right thing and keep in touch with Greg and myself whenever you return to work.

CBA:    ARTICLE 7   TRAVEL & BOARD

Map Provided as appendix C:  Travel will be compensated by zone: Free zone is area from the union hall to $12/ day radius which covers Geneva and all remaining #46 jurisdictional area.  Additionally, the county in which an employee resides is considered to be his/her "Free Zone" when that employee is working on a job site within that county.

Section 2.  When employed outside of the limits of the free zone, and within the jurisdiction of the Union, employees shall provide transportation for themselves which will assure their arrival at the limits at regular starting time, and the Employer shall provide or pay for all additional transportation for such jobs, including transportation from such job back to the limits of the free zone which will assure arrival at such limits at quitting time. As an alternative to the foregoing method, travel expense may be paid by a zone as provided in section 1 above or other method of payment.

Section 4.  When transportation is provided by the employer it shall be in a company owned vehicle or in a public conveyance.  When such transportation is provided by the employer the employee shall report at the designated time to the point where such transportation is to start within the free zone and shall be returned to such point at the designated time within the free zone.   If the employer wants the employee at the point of origination of transportation before the designated time and / or return after the designated time the employee shall be paid at time and one half the regular hourly rate of pay for such time.

Section 6.  When working outside of Local #46 jurisdiction the expenses shall be as specified in Article 8, Section 6.  Money for expenses shall be paid in advance. The parties intend travel pay to fairly compensate employees for travel, not to place contractors at a competitive disadvantage due to geographic location or to create artificial barriers against out-of-area contractors. If an Employer sends an employee to perform work outside of the territorial jurisdiction of the United States of America or Canada, travel pay and/or subsistence arrangements shall be negotiated locally.

ARTICLE 8   WAGE CONDITIONS

Section 6.  When the Employer has any work specified in Article 1 of this Agreement to be performed outside of the area covered by this Agreement and within the area covered by another Agreement with another union affiliated with the Sheet Metal Worker's International Association, and qualified sheet metal workers are available in such area, the Employer may send no more than two (2) sheet metal workers per job into such area to perform any work which the Employer deems necessary, both of whom shall be from the Employer's home jurisdiction.  All additional sheet metal workers shall come from the area in which the work is to be performed.  Journeyperson sheet metal workers covered by this Agreement who are sent outside of the area covered by this Agreement shall be paid at least the established minimum wage scale specified in Section 1 of this Article but in no case less than the established wage scale of the local Agreement covering the territory in which such work is performed or supervised, plus all necessary transportation, travel time, board and expenses while employed in that area, and the Employer shall be otherwise governed by the established working conditions of that local Agreement.  If employees are sent into an area where there is no local Agreement of the Sheet Metal Worker's International Association covering the area then the minimum conditions of the home local union shall apply.
