“FIREPOT”

THE NEXT UNION MEETING IS THURSDAY MAY 21, 2009 AT 5:00 PM

WE WERE SADDEDNED TO HEAR of the passing of Brother Tim Connolly on April 29, 2009.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this time.

UNION MEETINGS: As outlined in the last issue of “The Labor News” there were several “Special Notified” Meetings in the month of April and we will be holding another in the month of May.

#1 THURSDAY MAY 21, 2009 at 5:00 PM we will hold a Special Notified Meeting for the purpose of discussion on our ongoing contract talks. Our current Contract expired May 3, 2009; as of today we continue to meet with the employers and we will report, in detail, our current position on May 21st. We will also be conducting elections prior to the meeting for the positions as outlined below. The results of our previous two meetings are as follows:

#2 THURSDAY APRIL 23, 2009 at 5:00 PM we held a Special Notified Meeting at the Carpenters Union Hall (244 Paul Road). We opened the evening with a brief presentation; then everyone in attendance had the opportunity to tour the entire building. Upon return we completed a more in depth presentation with a full review of the appropriate financial information. Once all questions were answered we held a vote on several motions to purchase the building and all motions passed. The purchase of this building is a very exciting opportunity for our Union and we will be sure to get more information to all in the near future.

#3 THURSDAY APRIL 16, 2009 a Special Notified Meeting was held at 5:00 PM at our Hall for the purposes of nominations. The following members were nominated and are eligible to run for the following positions;

5)    Two (2) delegates to the National Convention:

ELECTIONS: for the above positions will be held on THURSDAY MAY 21, 2009 at our union hall from 12:00 (Noon) - 5:00 PM after which we will hold a Union Meeting to conduct the special and regular order of business.

DUES REMINDER: We would like to remind everyone that your dues must be paid prior to the first day of the month. Please save yourself the late payment fees by paying your dues on time.

RECORD UPDATES: We are in the process of updating our records and are asking ALL members to complete new authorization and beneficiary cards. Please stop by the hall at your earliest opportunity and complete these cards. It will only take a few minutes of your time but they are vitally important to your family and your union.

NEW T-SHIRTS ARE IN! The new short sleeve t-shirts are in. If you are a smaller size & have been waiting for them to arrive, you should hurry in to get yours before the mediums & larges are gone!

“WE HANG DUCKS” t-shirt: Does anybody have an old t-shirt with the “We hang ducks” design on it?  This may have been from the late 80’s or early 90’s. Any help will be appreciated.

Your coverage will not be changed as a result of this survey.  It only impacts which payer is the primary payer if you have other coverage.

We appreciate your cooperation.

HEALTH FUND: By now everyone should have received your new Summary Plan Description (SPD) in a 3-ring. If you have not received one please give the benefits office a call.
