“FIREPOT”
THE NEXT UNION
MEETING IS THURSDAY JULY 16, 2009 AT 5:00 PM
WE WERE SADDENED
TO HEAR of the passing of Brother John Parish’s and Brother Mark Cooper’s mother-in-law,
Beatrice Plympton on June 14, 2009. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to their wives’,
WE ARE SORRY: In the May 22,
2009 issue of the Firepot in the
article regarding George Kukla, Jack Scherer’s name was spelled
incorrectly. We apologize.
DAD’s DAY CORNER
COLLECTION: RAIN, RAIN & MORE RAIN but everyone who showed up hung in there and
we gave it our best. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those
who came out in support of this worthy cause. I believe Brother Ralph Casperson
said it best when he wrote the following:
“Every year local
46 hosts a Golf Tournament and a Corner Collection to support research to fight
diabetes. Over the years they have collected thousands of dollars for this
worthwhile cause and this year was no exception. The Golf Tournament was held
at Brockport Country Club and the corner collection was held the following
week. Although the golf tournament was fun and was held on a good day (the
weather on the corner collection day was dreadful). The corner collection
exemplifies what the building trades are all about. The weather started out bad
and proceeded to get worse. Retirees,
journeymen and apprentices stayed their ground and collected for this
worthwhile cause. I even over heard a journeyman tell his son “Hell, I’ve worked
in weather worse than this”. I sincerely believe that these men are role models
for the future building trades.”
TOTAL
COLLECTIONS: In total, between both the Corner Collections and the Golf Tournament we
have been able to collect roughly $6,000.00 for the Dollars Against Diabetes foundation this year. Again, from all of
us in Local #46 thank-you to every volunteer, sponsor, contributor and member who
made this possible.
GRADUATION AND
PIN DINNER: On Friday June 26th we celebrated the graduation of 37 Sheet
Metal Workers from their tenure as apprentices to Journeyperson level
mechanics. We also recognized 47 members with 25, 40, 50 or 60 year service
awards. The event was open to all members and employers and was held at the
