“FIREPOT”

THE NEXT UNION MEETING IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 AT 5:00 PM

THIS MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 244 PAUL ROAD

LABOR DAY PARADE: Was held on Monday September 7th, 2009 –The weather was great and there were 80+ members, spouses and children in attendance. We met at the Rutter Street location where tee shirts were provided, there was also coffee, juice and donuts available for all in the morning after which we loaded up and left for the Parade staging area on Prince Street. This year we had 3 Stake Body trucks filled with people, a 30’ American Flag (that took close to 30 people to carry), our 16’ Display Trailer and a Roth Controls Scion. The stake body trucks were provided by EDS Mechanical, Leo J. Roth Corp. and Monroe Piping & Sheet Metal. After the parade we all returned to Rutter Street where lunch was served. This is always a good time and a great event for families and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all who attended!

OUR CONDOLENSCES GO OUT TO Brother Robert Taylor and his wife, Donna on the passing of their son, Timothy. He was also the nephew of Brother Al Taylor and cousin of Brother Brian Taylor. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim’s wife, Trish and his entire family at this time.

UNION MEETINGS: Reminder, beginning this month all Union Meetings will be held on Friday evenings at 5:00 pm unless otherwise notified and they will be at the Paul Road location.

TRAVEL: As we have stated earlier, the local economy is in low gear and for those on the bench we would ask you to consider your travel options. If working out of the area is an option for you then please give Greg a call and we will keep you on the list of workers available for travel.

NEW SKILLS: A message to ALL members that are not working at this time… Now might be a good time to get your welding certifications. If you already have them, maybe its time to get them up-dated or maybe its time you just spent a few hours in the booth “brushing-up”. There are also many other courses available for every member to take and perhaps you can improve on some other skills by taking any of the classes offered at our training center. Call Mike Kelly at 647-3200 for further details.

CLAMBAKE TICKETS: Our annual clambake will be held on Saturday September 26, 2009 and will again be at Barnard Exempt’s with Smokey’s serving up their best clams. Tickets are on sale through Monday September 21st and are $30 for Journeymen, $25 for Retirees and $20 for Apprentices/Pre-Apprentices.

LOCAL #46 BENEFIT NEWS

(585) 458-0400

ANNUITY FUND: Returns have been improving these past few months and while it is likely to take a long time to recover all of the losses of 2008 it is good to see this positive run for a time.

You may have noticed several charges applied to your account this past month. This was done in error by Prudential and it has been corrected. The correct amounts will show up in your next statement.

The Guaranteed interest rate for the Guaranteed Income Fund for the six month period of July 1, 2009 through December 3, 2009 will be 2.65% and is guaranteed not to change during that period of time.

FINANCIAL PLANNER: We are looking into providing the services of a Financial Planning service – free of charge for all Annuity Fund Participants. If this is something you would be interested in please give us a call. If there is enough interest we will begin the service.

RETIREMENT: If you plan to retire in the near future please be sure to contact the benefits office three months in advance of your plans. It takes several months for you to get all of the affairs in order. We can sit down and discuss all of the details with you at your convenience. You must also apply to National Pension Fund for a “Vesting Application” separately. This can be easily done online at the NPF Website located at http://www.smwnpf.org/ or follow the link from our IA Website at http://www.smwia.org/ or from our Local 46 Website at http://www.smw46.com/

PERSONAL INFORMATION: If you have moved or have changed phone numbers or if you have changed your marital status, beneficiary status or dependant status please be sure to inform our office. We cannot help you if we cannot find you.
